Netherlands literary scene – August

Here’s our rundown of upcoming international literary events in The Netherlands for August 2018. Events are in English unless otherwise noted. Most ask that you register; some require tickets.

  • Int’l open stage: In the park edition– poetry, stories, songs and more in whatever language you want on Tuesday, 14 August, 21:00 at Griftpark, Utrecht
  • The PoeTree: Poetry At The Park – a mix of invited guests and open mic (poetry, spoken word, storytelling, songwriting) on Sunday, 19 August, 20:00 at Vondelpark, Amsterdam
  • Open Mic Monday– poetry, music and stories in Dutch, English, French and Spanish, new performers welcome on 20 August, 20:30, Labyrinth, Amsterdam
  • Labyrinth Poetry Night –  local artists share poetry, spokenword & music around the theme dreams on Saturday, 25 August, 20:30 at Labyrinth, Amsterdam
  • Master Class with Poet Joost Baars, winner of the 2018 VSB Poetry Prize, on Sunday, 26 August, 17:00 at Boekhandel Van Rossum, AmsterdamŸ
  • Open Mic Monday– poetry, music and stories in Dutch, English, French and Spanish, new performers welcome on 27 August, 20:30, Labyrinth, Amsterdam
  • Manu Joseph on the Power of Literature on Tuesday, 28 August, 20.30 at De Balie, Amsterdam
  • Outdoor write-together (it’s a get-together + writing) on Thursday, 30 August, 18:30 at the Artisplein, Amsterdam
  • Tolkien’s The Fall of Gondolin Book Launch – a special evening of readings and commentary on Friday, 31 August, 19:30 at Waterstones Booksellers, Amsterdam
  • The comeback of the paper book: launching TXT Magazine  – a topical panel discussion with experts followed by a borrel and every attendee receives a freshly printed copy of TXT No. 5 on Thursday, 6 September, 17:00 at SPUI 25, Amsterdam
  • Word Up, Edition Open – spoken word poetry in English on Thursday, 20 September, 19:00 at Word Up in Amsterdam
