If you want to write more impactful stories or you find yourself struggling to finish your stories or even to get started, join our 1-day course on story structure.

This course will meet on Sunday, 16 June 2019 from 10:00 – 17:00 at Boekhandel van Rossum, Beethovenstraat 32, 1077 JH Amsterdam. Class size is 10-20 people. Tea, coffee and cookies provided, plus drinks and snacks afterwards.

Note: If you are currently enrolled in one of our multi-week workshops (spring or summer), don’t forget to use your members’ discount code when you register to receive 25% off.

This course will cover the following and more:

  • Finding your story
  • Sequencing and story logic
  • Marking a clear beginning and end
  • Revising for the main idea
  • How length influences structure: from flash fiction to the novel

You’ll come away with a process for structuring your ideas and a plan for moving forward. We’ll be focussing on the short story but the course will include tools novelists can use too.

This course is taught by the newest member of our faculty, Erik Raschke. Erik has over a decade of experience teaching and holds an M.A. in creative writing from the City College of New York. His short stories and essays have been published in, among others, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, Hazlitt, and Guernica. His short story “Winch” (Portland Review) was nominated for the the 2018 Best American Short Stories.

Want one-on-one help with your draft? You can also sign up for a manuscript review with Erik.
