Novelist, poet & memoirist Jennifer Clement will be giving a special master class for us on Thursday, 17 January from 11:00 – 12:30 at Sarphatistraat 213-IV, 1018 GJ Amsterdam. Reception to follow. Note: This event is open only to current and former workshop students. Winter workshop members receive 25% off—you will have received an email with your member discount code upon registration.
In conversation with our director Sarah Carriger, Clement will discuss technique in her latest novel Gun Love. We’ll also be speaking more generally about the writing and publishing process and there will be plenty of room for your questions.
Clement was born in the US but spent most of her childhood in Mexico City, where she currently lives. She’s the first woman president of PEN International, a worldwide association of writers with centres in over 100 countries. Clement has authored four novels, four collections of poetry and a memoir, Widow Basquiat. Gun Love was named a New York Times Editor’s Choice book and one of Time‘s 10 Best Fiction Books of 2018 and the Library Journal‘s Best Books of 2018.
We hope you can join us for the class and stay afterwards to get your book signed and mingle with other writers over tea, coffee and light snacks. And to keep the inspiration going, we’ll send you home with an exercise based on the novel.
To get the most out of the class we recommend you read the novel in advance. You can purchase your copy at Boekhandel van Rossum or online from most major booksellers (available in print and ebook formats).
