Want to know how to get your work into literary magazines? The International Writers’ Collective is teaming up with Versal, Amsterdam’s international literary & arts magazine, to offer a 1-day course on everything you need to know about submitting your work. This course will meet on Sunday, 8 September 2019 from 11:00 – 16:00 at Boekhandel van Rossum, Beethovenstraat 32, 1077 JH Amsterdam. Class size is 10-20 people.
You’ll learn dozens of tips & tricks to maximise your chances of being published, including:
- Where to submit – the tools and resources for identifying magazines that are a good fit for your work and concrete suggestions of some places to start.
- How to submit – the ins and outs of submission guidelines, formatting, cover letters, bios, electronic submission platforms and tools for tracking your submissions.
- What not to do – all the common mistakes writers make that land their work in the rejection pile.
Versal’s editors Megan M. Garr and Anna Arov will take you step by step through the entire process. This is a rare chance to sit down with experienced literary magazine editors and see the whole process through their eyes.
What you’ll need to bring: a laptop (if you don’t have access to one, let us know and we may be able to supply you with a loaner). If you have a story or some poems ready to submit, that’s fantastic. If you’re not ready just yet, no worries. Use this as a practice run.
We’ll provide tea, coffee and snacks during the day. And drinks and bites after class – we hope you can stay and mingle.
